The Anupama-Ajith couple’s 11-month-long struggle that has attracted attention in Kerala for the past few months has been won. Within 3 days of birth, she rescued her estranged child amid a legal battle. Let’s look at this in some detail.

CPM, the ruling party in the Perur shop area near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Anupama is the daughter of BS Jayachandran, an area committee member of the party. He was the head of the SFI, a CPM student body in the area. Anupama and her party colleague Ajith have been in love for the past five years. Ajith has been a person on the list. Also, he was already married and had filed for divorce.

Thus, Anupama has protested against their love at home. Anupama, who got acquainted with Ajith despite opposition, is pregnant. After this, Jayachandran and others have agreed to keep Ajith married and take care of the child and have kept Anupama with them. Anupama, who lived in her parents’ house, gave birth to a baby boy on October 19 last year. But, the baby was separated from Anupama on the third day of birth. The Jayachandran family is said to have adopted the child to another.

For Anupama, who was unaware of this at first, only knew it six months later. Following this, she caused a stir by claiming that she had been wandering for six months in search of her baby.

This was followed by a protest outside the Kerala Assembly. The man, who has been battling government agencies for nearly six months to recover the baby, met with the media a few days ago and made the matter known to the outside world.

After that, the police registered a case of disappearance of the child on October 19 and started an investigation. The matter went to court and the Kerala government stepped in in an attempt to rescue the child.

Meanwhile, a child suspected to be Anupama’s child, who was adopted by an Andhra couple from Kerala last Sunday, was brought to Thiruvananthapuram.

Then, yesterday the DNA test was done on the baby and Anupama, Ajith. At the end of the DNA test, it was determined that the child was Anupama and Ajith’s child.

The Child Welfare Committee told the court today that it had decided to hand over the child to the parents after a DNA test. Accordingly, the child was produced before a magistrate and then handed over to Anupama and Ajith. This marks the end of Anupama – Ajith’s 11 month long struggle.

At the same time, the debate over government practices and political pressures on child adoption is now in full swing in Kerala.
