The brutal crime took place on April 16, 2014 at noon. The investigation team found that the double murder was due to an extreme love affair between Nino Mathew, a project manager at an IT firm in Technopark, and Anushanti, a team leader. Anushanti and Ninov killed their own four-year-old daughter Swastika and her husband Omana to live together. Anushanti’s husband Lijeesh was seriously injured during the attack.

The Principal Sessions Judge, V. Judged by Shirzi Kolakayar. The court considered that Anusanti’s complicity in killing her grandchildren was an insult to motherhood itself. The court pointed out that they were exempted from the death penalty because they were women and did not directly participate in the crime considering their physical disabilities. Both were fined Rs 62.5 lakh each. The defendants left the courtroom and went to jail without showing any shock or sadness at the verdict and without any remorse for the crime they had committed.
