Anvidia acquires Accelero (excellentTel Aviv, which provides accelerated and software-based storage technologies (Software Defined Storage). Accelero was established in 2014 and has raised about $ 35 million to date. The company employs several dozen employees, most of whom are expected to join the Israeli R&D center of Anvidia. Since the acquisition of Mellanox in April 2020, Anvidia has expanded its scope of operations in Israel and currently employs more than 2,800 employees in seven development centers: Yokneam, Tel Hai, Tel Aviv, Raanana, Jerusalem, Kiryat Gat and Beer Sheva.

Dror Goldenberg, VP of Software Architecture at Anvidia Israel, said that Accelero brings deep expertise in fast storage solutions and accelerated communication. “The acquisition helps expand the areas of activity of Anvidia Israel.” Accelero’s co-founder and CEO, Yaniv Romem, said the company’s accelerated storage technologies would be integrated into Anvidia’s supercomputing and artificial intelligence platforms. Axelco is developing a software solution that speeds up the access to memory of semiconductor-based memory (SSD) drives.

The company’s technology called NVMesh also makes it possible to use drives to build large and fast enterprise memory arrays. NVMesh technology is a software-defined memory that optimizes the use of the NVMe communication protocol that allows connection to SSDs via PCIe interfaces. Designed specifically for SSDs, it is fast becoming an industrial standard for memory communication in data centers, cloud infrastructures and today even in personal computers.

Working together with Mellanox

The company has a deep knowledge of Anvidia, and has partnered with it in accelerating the performance of Anvidia’s Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) technology and optimizing RDMA technology over Ethernet (RoCE), also known as InfiniBand over Ethernet, which it used Mellanox. Access and memory management in NVMesh are performed without the involvement of the CPU, but only using interface cards (NICs) which themselves serve as accelerators and a tool for shifting loads from the central processor.

Since its inception, Accelero has invested in key technology companies, including Mellanox, Qualcomm, Western Digital and Micron. The company has previously reported that one of its customers is Microsoft which uses NVMesh technology to accelerate performance in some of the Azure cloud services. Other customers of the company: Deutsche Telekom, NASA, IBM, Supermicro, Fujitsu, the Canadian supercomputer SciNet, Mellanox and more. Anvidia announces that it will continue to provide support to all existing Accelero customers.
