Anwar Backs Southern Thailand Peace Efforts Under New Facilitator

Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to regional stability on October 23, 2026, as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with the nation’s newly appointed peace facilitator, retired Lieutenant-General Datuk Ahmad Norihan Jalal, to advance negotiations aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict in southern Thailand.

Dialogue grounded in mutual openness remains a path forward for the conflict-affected region, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a statement issued late Thursday. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Malaysia will continue to play a constructive role in supporting regional peace and stability, pointing out that geographical, economic, and social ties between the two countries make the peace efforts particularly important for cross-border trade and community safety.

Efforts to strengthen civic awareness, national identity and a sense of togetherness must continue to be intensified to build a strong nation rooted in shared history, values and aspirations.
