Anyang City is raising household water rates for the first time in seven years. Anyang City announced on the 2nd that it will gradually increase household water supply rates over three years starting from 2025.

The city has been freezing household water supply rates since 2018 to minimize the burden on citizens, but inevitably decided to raise rates for the first time in seven years to improve aging water facilities and provide safe tap water.

The household water supply fee, which is currently 440 won per ton (㎥), will rise by a total of 310 won to 550 won in 2025, 650 won in 2026, and 750 won in 2027. 1 ton (㎥) is equivalent to 500 2-liter bottled water.

Calculating the average monthly tap water usage per citizen of 6 tons on a household basis, previously the cost was 2,640 won per month, but from January next year, it will be 3,300 won, which is an additional 660 won per month.

Anyang City currently supplies domestic tap water at the 4th lowest price among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do.

For this reason, the total production cost of tap water, including domestic use, is 737 won per ton (㎥), but the unit selling price is 680 won, and the water rate realization rate (cost-to-cost) is only 92%.

The city plans to focus the resources secured by the rate increase on facility improvement and water quality management, and will do its best to provide high-quality tap water that citizens can drink safely.

The city is currently carrying out large-scale facility investments such as modernizing the old Bisan Water Purification Plant (built in 1973), Foil Water Purification Plant (built in 1983), and Cheonggye Integrated Water Purification Plant (built in 2002), installing advanced water treatment facilities, and replacing old water pipes. .

This increase is limited to home use, and the basic rates for general use, public baths, and each size will be frozen to minimize the burden on commercial facilities and small business owners.

An official from the city’s water administration department said, “This rate increase is an inevitable measure to ensure a stable supply of tap water,” and added, “We will provide services that satisfy citizens, including improving the taste and smell of tap water by introducing better facilities and technology.”
