Anyang City announced on the 20th that it received the ‘Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Hall of Fame Asia-Pacific Local Government Achievement Award’ at the ’30th Dubai Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress’ held in the United Arab Emirates at 9:00 am (local time) on the 17th.

The Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress is the world’s largest intelligent transport systems exhibition and academic conference, held annually in various countries around the world since its inception in Paris, France in 1994. This year, it was held in Dubai from the 16th to the 20th (local time), with over 20,000 participants from 100 countries. Local governments such as Anyang City, Suwon City, and Gangneung City from Korea, as well as companies such as LG U+, participated.

Anyang City’s local government service award is given to a city that has led future digital transportation innovation projects and greatly contributed to the development of intelligent transportation systems.

The city entered the competition for the Local Government Achievement Award at the prestigious Intelligent Transport System World Congress held in July and won the honor after a rigorous screening process that included voting by board members from three continents (Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific).

In the evaluation, Anyang City was evaluated as a leading city that has continuously advanced and activated an intelligent transportation system that reflects regional characteristics for more than 20 years.

In 2003, the city first established a bus information system and traffic information center that allows people to easily check real-time traffic information, weather, city news, and other information at bus stops. In 2008, the city integrated and expanded the system into the Anyang Smart City Integrated Center, developing an intelligent traffic system that reflects the characteristics of the region.

In particular, starting in 2022, we will promote the advancement of intelligent transportation systems based on artificial intelligence, implementing artificial intelligence smart intersections that recognize and control traffic congestion, and emergency vehicle priority signal systems that control intersection signals in case of an emergency to secure golden time for citizens.

Since April of this year, Anyang City has been operating the autonomous driving bus ‘Juya-ro’, which safely responds to various variables on general roads such as illegal parking, cutting in, and driving in the wrong direction.

In addition, Anyang City has also received attention for using the intelligent transportation system, which started as a transportation issue, as a key infrastructure to solve various urban management problems, such as natural disasters and catastrophes such as flooding and heavy snowfall, and crime prevention.

Representative examples of utilizing the video surveillance system (CCTV) of the intelligent transportation system include the decision support system for rapid response to emergency situations, which was completed in July in the mayor’s office and disaster management center, and the airspace surveillance and tracking system established through a business agreement with the military and police in August.
