Pole dancing is a demanding and artistic sport. Formerly reserved for specialized rooms, it has become more popular in certain sports complexes, in particular at Magic Form in Lagny-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne), where Agathe Dazy has been teaching since September 2019.

What are the benefits of pole dancing?

AGATHE DAZY. It is a very complete sport that allows the improvement of flexibility and mobility, therefore of muscles and joints, thanks to the range of motion. We also use strength and endurance. Despite the warm-up, the risk of injury exists if you do not listen to the instructions. I’m here to temper, if I see that a movement is made too abruptly. Finally, pole dancing has an effect on the mind because people help each other. They often insist by saying: “This is my class”.

What is the difference with fitness?

Besides the movements, I would say the number of people. With a dozen practitioners, I have time to go to people to listen to them and advise them. This reassures them and gives them confidence. I adapt to the needs of each or everyone, as well as to all physical. Everyone can try it, even pregnant women! And we’re not here to be “sexy”.

What is the room for improvement for someone starting out?

You can go very far with perseverance. If we manage to like what we learn, we find the regularity and everything is linked. The ultimate goal is not to turn students into professionals, it remains a leisure activity. The atmosphere is relaxed, each person finds their own pleasure. In a month, I will start a choreography, which will be “exotic” pole dancing, with platform shoes whose particularity is to have heels that can measure 15 cm. It’s going to be awesome.
