From 15 June this year, drinks should only be offered in reusable cups, PET bottles and cans. However, the major festivals – Graspop, Rock Werchter, Tomorrowland and Pukkelpop – asked Flanders for an exception, because they are not yet logistically ready for that switch. They got it, on the condition that they opt for reusable cups backstage and at the campsite. An exception is also made for twenty smaller festivals. “They have shown with evidence that they purchased a large stock of disposable cups before the federal ban on their sale came into effect,” said the cabinet of Flemish Environment Minister Zuhal Demir (N-VA). “Next year no more exemptions will be granted.”
