Apiņa’s competitor’s compliance with the medical group will be reviewed after the end of the Paris Paralympic Games /

It has already been reported that Apinis won silver in the discus throw in the F-52 medical group at the Paris Paralympic Games on Sunday, but the first place with a new world record – 27.06 meters – was won by Italian representative Ganeshamorthy, whose suitability for this medical group is debatable.

The Latvian Paralympic Committee (LPK) has approached the para-athletics supervising organization “World Para Athletics” in this matter, therefore it is not excluded that Ganeshamorti’s results could be annulled.

“This will be looked at after the Paralympic Games, because there is no classification panel at the Paralympic Games. That is why it is more difficult to dispute everything, but we have done our job. The Croatians probably also sent an e-mail about this situation,” said Skujiņa-Rubene.

This is already the seventh Olympic Games for Apin. So far, four gold, two silver and three bronze medals have been won in discus and shot put. Apinis won third place in this discipline three years ago in Tokyo.

51-year-old Apinis is the most titled Latvian Paralympian of all time. He also held the Paralympic discus record in the F-52 group at exactly 21 meters, achieved 12 years ago at the Paralympic Games in London.

The Paris Paralympic Games will take place until September 8, with Latvians competing in athletics, paralympic dressage, cycling, swimming and shooting.

22 sports are represented in the Paralympic Games, in which about 4,400 athletes compete.
