Apin managed to throw the discus 20.62 meters in his fourth attempt. He threw the discus 20.21 and 19.49 meters in the first two attempts, 20.38 meters in the fifth, but the third and sixth throws were not counted.

The first place with a new world record – 27.06 meters – was won by Italian representative Rigivan Ganeshamorthy, whose eligibility for this medical group is debatable. As the LETA agency found out, the Latvian Paralympic Committee (LPK) has approached the organization supervising para-athletics “World Para Athletics” in this matter, so it is not excluded that Ganesamoorthy’s results could be annulled.

The official results of the Paralympic Games also mention that a protest has been filed regarding the outcome of the competition.

He broke the world record held by the Brazilian Andre Roche by more than three meters. Roche won the bronze medal in Paris, throwing the discus 19.48 meters.

Ten para-athletes competed in this group.

This is already the seventh Olympic Games for Apin. So far, four gold, two silver and three bronze medals have been won in discus and shot put. Apinis won third place in this discipline three years ago in Tokyo.

51-year-old Apinis is the most titled Latvian Paralympian of all time. He also held the Paralympic discus record in the F-52 group at exactly 21 meters, achieved 12 years ago at the Paralympic Games in London.

The Paris Paralympic Games will take place until September 8, with Latvians competing in athletics, paralympic dressage, cycling, swimming and shooting.

22 sports are represented in the Paralympic Games, in which about 4,400 athletes compete.

As of September 1, paragraph 7 specifies the number of Olympic Games in which Apinis participated
