APM Terminals Algeciras manages the largest cargo in the port in one stopover

APM Terminals Algeciras has recently received the container ship ‘Luna Maersk’, which is 265 meters long and 37 meters wide, to manage a load during its stopover in the Andalusian area. Through this operation, which is part of the 84W service whose objective is to unite the Mediterranean with the United States, Central America and the Pacific coast, the operator breaks the record for the largest load carried out in a stopover.

Specifically, the ship has departed from the ‘Juan Carlos I Dock’ bound for New York with 3,917 TEUs loaded at APM Terminals Algeciras. The largest cargo previously recorded was 3,825 TEUs. It is worth mentioning that this is the second record recorded by the terminal in recent months, since on February 22, the facility ended the operations of the ship ‘Mayview Maersk’, with 201.63 movements per hour.

APM Terminals Algeciras stands out as one of the largest terminals in the Western Mediterranean and a natural transshipment center for cargo to and from Africa, Europe and the Far East. Maersk has appreciated the good coordination work prior to the call, and the communication between its planning teams, those of the terminal and the ship’s crew, to reach this milestone.

On the other hand, the APM Terminals ship inspection application, designed to improve the safety in the work environment of stevedores and terminal staff, has been awarded by TT Club with the TT Innovation in Safety Awards. This tool, developed by the operator in collaboration with Maersk, has been updated this month with new functions to optimize operator safety.
