The YouTube channel ‘Pishik University’, which was criticized for its regional disparagement controversy, is speeding up the revitalization of its channel.

On the 20th, a video titled ‘Hello, I am the Yeongyang County Governor’ was released on the official channel of Pishik University.

In the video, Oh Do-chang, the governor of Yeongyang County, appears and says, “During the recent flood in our region, we received a lot of help with the in-kind donation from Pishik University,” and “Pishik University is trying to help with the development and promotion of Yeongyang County.”

Governor Oh said, “This time, I would like to officially propose promoting Yeongyang-gun’s tourist attractions and its representative festival, the ‘Yeongyang Chili Hot Festival,’” and added, “I look forward to a fun and informative promotion of Yeongyang-gun, as befitting Pishik University. I wish for the endless development of Pishik University.”

Next, comedians Jung Jae-hyung, Kim Min-soo, and Lee Yong-ju, who are members of Pishik University, introduce Yeongyang-gun’s tourist attractions, and the promotional content schedule to be released in the future is shown. The promotional video for the ‘Yeongyang Chili Hot Festival’ is scheduled to be uploaded on the 29th to the 31st.

On May 11, Pishik University uploaded a video titled “We came to Yeongyang, the smallest city in Gyeongsang Province” as part of the “Made in Gyeongsang Province” series.

The cast members said, while eating hamburger buns at a bakery in Yeongyang, “There’s no Lotteria here. The young kids want to eat hamburgers, but they eat this instead,” and “They can’t eat them, so they’re doing this.”

Another person at a restaurant serving plain rice said, “The menu is nothing special. If you eat this every day, that hamburger from earlier will taste like honey.” He also disparaged red ginseng jelly bought at a supermarket by saying, “It tastes like grandma. It’s like ripping off grandma’s flesh.”

As criticism poured in, Pishik University deleted the video and posted an apology within two weeks, but the controversy did not die down. The number of subscribers plummeted from 3.18 million to 2.87 million, and online communities were filled with posts denouncing their rudeness.

Pisik University, which had been in self-reflection, stopped uploading videos and resumed uploading on July 9, two months later. They also donated 50 million won worth of goods to Yeongyang, which suffered damage from heavy rain.
