Apple is preparing to introduce the Apple A16 with the iPhone 14 series. However, for the first time, it will not be available to the entire range. This year, Apple is heading down the path of the “lesser known” vanilla iPhone 14 and 14 Max, and the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max “more groundbreaking”. Pro models get the Apple A16, better cameras, and a new screen design. The flannel has last year’s Apple A15, 12MP cameras, and a notch screen. Today, some details of the Apple A16 were revealed.
The iPhone 14 Max and 14 Max will come with the same processor as the iPhone 13 series. However, they will bring a five-core GPU variant just like the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Vanilla iPhone 13 models have a quad-core GPU. The phones will also bring 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM, which is an advantage over the iPhone 13 and 13 mini with 4GB of RAM.
Apple A16 details appear
A new report from Macworld attempts to address this question. The first thing to note is that the new Apple A16 chipset features TSMC N4P manufacturing, which is an improvement over the N5P. However, it is not a complete upgrade. The new Apple A16 chip will come with 18 to 20 billion transistors and up to 15 billion. The company will also transition to the new ARMv9 standard. A CPU may bring a modest 15 percent performance upgrade. Apple will likely stick to the same hexa-core configuration.
Apple A16 may come on iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max along with LPDDR5 RAM. It has 50 percent more bandwidth than LPDDR4X and is more power efficient on boot. However, both models will offer 6 GB of RAM and there will be no jump to 8 GB. For the GPU, the prediction says Apple will stick with a 5-core to 6-core design. The expectation is a 25-30% increase in GPU performance. Apple will also enhance its ISP and machine learning hardware to handle higher resolutions. The iPhone 14 Pro series will move to a 48MP camera and 8K video recording. There will be major upgrades on the iPhone 14 series cameras, but Android phones are miles ahead.
Last but not least, the company may stick to Qualcomm modems. So we expect the Snapdragon X65 to provide connectivity when paired with the Apple A16.
