Apple announced a new iPad with an enlarged screen, USB-C and no home button

by time news

Apple is updating its line of tablet computers today, not as part of an event at the company’s headquarters, but through a message sent to the press. Despite the choice of a modest announcement in relation to driving Apple, it is actually a rather dramatic update to the base model that receives a completely new design and aligns with the more expensive Air and Pro models. The home button has disappeared, and the fingerprint scanner has been integrated into the power button on the side of the device, for a cleaner design that is “all screen” according to Apple.

The new iPad generation 10 has a larger screen, 10.9 inches, with a resolution of 2360×1640 pixels. The A14 processor of the iPhone 12 is responsible for performance, along with a battery that should be enough for a “full working day”. On the front, the new tablet is equipped with a camera with a wide lens and a 12-megapixel sensor, and on the back is another 12-megapixel camera. It supports writing with the Apple Pencil digital pen, but only from the first generation (the second remains exclusive to the Air and Pro models).

The new iPad will come in yellow, pink, blue and silver colors, with models that have a storage capacity of 64 and 256 gigabytes. Its price in the USA will be 449 dollars. The older model will meanwhile be sold alongside it for $329. The launch date is set for October 26. Along with the tablet itself, it will be possible to purchase for 249 dollars an official keyboard accessory, which also includes a touchpad for controlling the mouse cursor.

iPad Pro is being upgraded

Alongside the new 2022 iPad, Apple also announced a specification update for the iPad Pro, which remains the same design as last year. The M1 chipset is replaced by the new and more powerful M2, with Wi-Fi 6E connection and support for additional 5G frequencies. This actually sums up the differences from the previous model, which presented an advanced Mini LED display that of course remains in place. An 11-inch model will retail for $799, while the 12.9-inch edition will retail for $1,099.

Alongside the announcement of the new iPad models, Apple announced that all supported iPad devices will be updated to iPad OS 16 on October 24.
