Apple Inc. for the first time became the largest smartphone manufacturer by sales in quantitative terms with a market share of 20.1%. Samsung lost its lead for the first time since 2010.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Interfax, this is stated in the preliminary report of the International Data Corporation (IDC).
“In the second half of the year, there was strong growth in sales of budget devices on the Android platform, including Transsion and Xiaomi, due to popularity in emerging markets, but the main winner was clearly Apple,” said Nabila Popal, head of research at IDC Worldwide Tracker. “The company is not only the only out of the top three recorded positive dynamics at the end of the year, but also rose to first place for the first time.”
South Korean Samsung Electronics last year reduced sales by 13.6%, Chinese Xiaomi – by 4.7%, OPPO – by 9.9%. Meanwhile, a relatively new player in the smartphone market, the Chinese Transsion, increased sales by 30.8% and rose to fifth place at the end of the year with a market share of 8.1%.
Global smartphone shipments in 2023 decreased by 3.2% to 1.17 billion units, says an IDC report.
In the fourth quarter, global smartphone sales rose 8.5% year-on-year to 326.1 million, compared with expectations of a 7.3% increase.
