Apple TV+ has canceled the comedy series Palm Royale after two seasons, Deadline reported Tuesday. The display, which premiered in March 2024, follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she attempts to infiltrate Palm Beach high society.
The cancellation comes despite a critically acclaimed first season that garnered 11 Emmy nominations, winning for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music. While the series didn’t achieve the mainstream success of other Apple TV+ comedies like Ted Lasso or The Studio, its star-studded cast – including Wiig, Ricky Martin, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, and Carol Burnett – drew attention. According to ratings aggregators, Palm Royale holds a 60% average rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.8/10 on IMDb.
Based on the 2018 novel Mr. And Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, the show concluded its second season last January with its central storyline unresolved. Deadline’s exclusive report confirms that this is where the story will end. “The Apple TV series Palm Royale has taken its final bow,” the report states.
Palm Royale debuted on Apple TV+ on March 20, 2024, and consisted of 20 episodes total. Apple declined to comment on the cancellation when contacted by Deadline.
The series’ cancellation adds to a growing list of Apple TV+ shows that haven’t secured long-term runs. The streaming service, which costs $12.99 per month, also features popular titles like F1 The Movie, Pluribus, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
Fans can still watch both seasons of Palm Royale on Apple TV+, but the story of Maxine Simmons’s social climb will remain unfinished. The show’s cancellation highlights the competitive landscape of streaming television, where even critically praised series can face the chopping block.
Apple TV+ has not yet announced renewal plans for any of its other original series. The company is expected to share further updates on its programming slate in the coming months.
