Apple has increased the cost of replacing batteries in iPhone, iPad and Mac computers

by time news

Apple has announced an unusual increase in the prices it will charge for battery replacement service in iPhone, iPad and Mac computers. The price increase will come into effect on March 1, at the Apple Store network. Although the announcement is directly valid only for the USA, it is very likely that the increase in price will also roll on to importers and various service providers around the world – including Israel.

The cost of replacing the battery in iPhones will rise from $69 to $89. The same increase in price will also be recorded in the cost of replacing the batteries for the iPad Pro models. In Mac computers, the price increase is even sharper: batteries for MacBook Air computers will cost $30 more, while for batteries for MacBook Pro computers, Apple will charge $50 more than before.

Two groups are “exempted” from the price increase. One is customers who pay for AppleCare insurance, and will benefit from a free battery replacement the moment the battery performance drops below 80 percent of the original capacity. A second group is owners of a device from the iPhone 14 series. These are initially required to pay an extremely high price of 99 dollars for a battery replacement outside of warranty, but this cost will not increase on March 1st.

Apple did not explain why it decided to increase the cost of batteries at this time. This announcement comes against the background of the European Union’s intention to require manufacturers to allow users to replace batteries independently, without the need to contact a service laboratory.
