Apple is gearing up to unveil its much-anticipated M4 Mac lineup this month, marking a significant advancement in their computer technology. Updates are expected for the iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini as part of the transition to M4 chips. While the event may be held soon, the new Macs are anticipated to ship starting November 1st.
16GB RAM as Standard
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new M4 Macs are expected to come with at least 16GB of RAM, including the base model of the 14” MacBook Pro, the new Mac mini, and the updated iMac. This shift from 8GB to 16GB for base models is a significant enhancement, especially as Apple’s software continues to require more memory.
Mac Mini Redesign
Recent rumors indicate that the new Mac mini will feature the biggest redesign in its 14-year history, with expectations of a more compact form factor. In this redesign, Apple may remove USB-A ports but is likely to add more USB-C options to accommodate user needs.
USB-C Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad
Reports suggest an updated iMac could arrive this month, potentially bringing refreshed hardware for all Magic accessories. In compliance with the European Union’s USB-C regulations, it is likely that Apple will transition away from Lightning ports for its desktop accessories alongside the new M4 iMac.
Space Black on the Cheapest MacBook Pro
Currently, Space Black is available only on the higher-end M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pros, leaving the base model in Space Gray. Although this might seem like a deliberate distinction, it may simply relate to logistical factors.
When the M3 MacBook Pro launched last year, it was found to be pre-loaded with macOS Ventura instead of macOS Sonoma, which is what the more advanced models ran. This discrepancy raises questions about the timing of the launch, suggesting the base model may have been ready earlier but not released, leading to its older color palette.
Fans are hopeful that the new M4 MacBook Pro will feature the sleek Space Black color option.
Brand New M4 Pro and M4 Max Chips
Having debuted the base M4 chip in the iPad Pro last May, attention now turns to the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. These higher-end chips are rumored to launch in the upcoming MacBook Pros.
While specific details about the M4 Pro and Max chips remain sparse, they are expected to utilize TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process, which is known for enhancing performance and efficiency. Further details, such as core counts, are yet to be unveiled.
Wi-Fi 7
The M4 Macs are likely to support the advanced Wi-Fi 7 standard, which was also integrated into the latest iPhone 16 series. Wi-Fi 7 promises speeds of up to 46 Gbps, significantly outpacing Wi-Fi 6E’s 9 Gbps and improving connectivity with features that reduce interference.
