Apple Set to Announce New iPad Updates, Including iPad Air and iPad Mini Refresh

Apple enthusiasts can look forward to new iPad updates as the tech giant is set to make an announcement this week, possibly on Tuesday October 17. The news comes from reliable sources, including Supercharged and 9to5Mac, who have corroborated the report.

The updates will focus on the iPad Air, iPad mini, and the base model iPad. However, it is important to note that these updates are expected to be minor spec bumps rather than major design changes.

The timing of these updates is in line with expectations, as the iPad Air and iPad mini are indeed due for a refresh. This particular October refresh will see the tablets being updated with newer-generation Apple Silicon chips. Apple is expected to make the announcement via a press release.

The current-generation iPad Air was released almost three years ago and currently features an M1 chip. However, according to the Supercharged report, we can anticipate an upgrade to the M2 chip. This will undoubtedly enhance the performance of the device.

Meanwhile, the new iPad mini is expected to sport an A16 Bionic chip, offering a slight improvement over its current A15 Bionic chip. Additionally, the device is expected to feature a new display controller to address the jelly scrolling issue that is noticeable in current-generation iPad minis while scrolling.

As for the base model iPad, it received its last update a year ago, making it the most recent device in the lineup. The tenth-generation model introduced a sleek bezel design, new color options, and a Touch ID side button. Currently powered by the A14 Bionic chip, the specifics for the supposedly forthcoming 11th-generation model are yet to be confirmed. However, considering the upgrade in the iPad mini’s chip, it is plausible to expect a similar update for the base model iPad.

Notably, the iPad Pro lineup will remain unchanged for now. The last update for the iPad Pro was in October 2022, and the next-generation models are not expected to be ready until later next year. Rumor has it that the next-gen iPad Pros will feature OLED displays for the first time.

Apple enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly awaiting the official announcement from Apple to get a glimpse of the upgraded iPads that will enhance their user experience.
