According to well-known Apple leaker Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch a series of Macs featuring M4 chips at its event in September this year. The update indicates that the minimum memory configuration across all Macs will start at 16GB, aimed at significantly enhancing computer performance and user experience. The last time Apple upgraded the standard RAM configuration was in 2016, when it increased the standard configuration RAM of the regular 13-inch MacBook Air from 4GB to 8GB.

Mark Gurman stated that Apple is testing four new Mac models equipped with M4 chips, with reports suggesting that all test models come with a minimum of 16GB RAM, and some even feature 32GB RAM, much higher than the previous minimum setting of 8GB RAM. It is reported that Apple believes future Apple Intelligence will need at least 16GB of RAM to run smoothly, hence setting 16GB RAM as the standard configuration. Additionally, Mark Gurman mentioned that future M4 chip series Macs can be configured with up to 32GB RAM, whereas the current M3 version can only upgrade to a maximum of 24GB RAM.

According to a Bloomberg report, besides launching the new M4 Mac series, Apple also plans to release the next-generation iPhone 16 at its September event. As of now, Mark Gurman has not provided details regarding the specifications for the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips. He estimates that Apple will begin to launch the M4 Mac series before the end of this year and will introduce other Macs equipped with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips in 2025.
