Apple has stopped selling iPhone 14, 14 Plus and third-generation iPhone SE on its website in EU countries due to the decree coming into force on a single standard for smartphone chargers. This was reported by the MacRumors portal, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
According to the source, these iPhone models are no longer available on the Apple online store in the EU and countries that are part of the European Single Market, such as Switzerland.
Under the new rules, European Union member countries are required to ensure compliance of mobile device chargers no later than December 28, 2024. The exception is portable computers, for which the transition to USB-C must be completed by April 28, 2026.
Thus, devices equipped with the proprietary Lightning connector were removed from sale. Only the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 offer a modern USB-C port.
Apple is expected to introduce the fourth-generation iPhone SE with a USB-C port in March. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus likely would have been discontinued in September if not for the new rules.
