By the end of the year, Apple will change the menu screen, default apps and app deletion functions for iOS and iPadOS users in the EU, the company announced.
The changes will ensure that Apple meets the requirements of the EU Digital Markets Act.
Apple device users will be able to set new default apps, delete core apps such as App Store, Messages, Camera, Photos and Safari after the change. The only Apple apps that cannot be deleted will be the ones that provide settings and phone calls.
Future updates will expand the default settings options to include calling phone numbers, sending messages, text translation, navigation, password management, keyboards, and call spam filters.
The changes are available to developers who distribute apps in any of the 27 EU member states, and only apply to apps that are available and distributed to users in EU member states, Apple said.
