Apple unveiled a ‘budget’ iPhone and the new iPad Air

by time news

Time.news – Apple has launched the new iPhone SE, the ‘economic’ version of the iPhone 13, which costs 530 euros and shares some – but only a few – of the performances with its older brother.
The processor is the A15 Bionic which ‘pushes’ on the cameras and promises to “enhance any experiencefrom photo editing to more demanding uses such as video games or augmented reality “.

Connectivity is (finally) also 5G and the commitment is a improve battery life, which has always been the Achilles heel of Apple’s smartphones. Three colors in which it is available: midnight, galaxy and red. It will be available for pre-order starting Friday 11 March and will be available starting Friday 18 March.

“IPhone SE has become a very popular model with both existing Apple users and new customers. This year we have made a more powerful and resistant iPhone SE, with better autonomy thanks to the A15 Bionic chip, the same used on the iPhone 13 range, which allows advanced camera functions such as Smart HDR 4, Photographic Styles and Deep Fusion, ”said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “Thanks to 5G, iPhone SE enables faster downloads and uploads, higher quality video streaming, real-time interactivity in apps and much more. Only Apple is able to offer the latest generation technology and performance at this price ”.

The 4.7-inch display is though too small to really work on video and photo editing or enjoy a TV series, even if the materials are the same as those used for the iPhone 13 Pro. With an IP67 rating it is (finally) resistant to splashes and dust and is not afraid of drops, but be careful not to drop it in the water.

The Home button with Touch ID returns to the scene which can be used to access apps, authorize App Store purchases, transact with Apple Pay. iPhone SE is (finally) compatible with Qi-certified wireless chargers and also supports fast charging.

The camera system mounts a 12MP wide angle. Smart HDR is used to apply the right color, contrast and digital noise adjustments to the subjects for a correct exposure of faces even in the most difficult lighting conditions. iPhone SE will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB models.

Apple also presented the new iPad Air with the Apple M1 chip, an ultra-wide-angle front camera with Auto Framing designed for videoconferencing and 5G connectivity (but only on Cellular models). The battery promises to last all day and the 8-core GPU to deliver graphics performance up to twice as fast as the previous iPad Air. The front camera frame moves automatically to keep the subject in the frame even when it moves. When other people join the call, the camera detects them and gradually zooms out to include them in the conversation.

The rear camera is 12MP. The Liquid Retina display is 10.9 inches (yes for working on videos and photos) with 3.8 million pixels, 500 nits of brightness, full lamination, wide color gamut P3, True Tone and anti-reflective coating.

The Touch ID sensor is integrated into the top button. The new iPad Air will be orderable starting from Friday 11 March starting from 699 euros, even if the Cellular model starts at 869 euros with a capacity (rather modest, to be honest) of 64GB.

Outside the world of laptops, Apple also introduced Mac Studio and Studio Display, a new desktop computer and display designed for the workplace. The machine mounts the M1 Max chip and the new M1 Ultra, the most powerful in the world on a personal computer for rendering 3D environments and playing 18 streams of ProRes video.

Studio Display is a 27-inch Retina 5K, 12MP ultra-wide-angle, auto-framing camera, and high-fidelity sound with six speakers and spatial audio. To have them both you need to expect a fee of just over 4,000 euros (without keyboard and mouse).
