■ ANC-equipped Model for Standard AirPods! 29,800 yen
■ H2 Chip Introduces Features Previously Exclusive to Higher Models
First up is the AirPods 4. There are two models: one with ANC and one without, priced at 29,800 yen and 21,800 yen, respectively. They will be released on September 20, with pre-orders already underway.
The AirPods 4 is equipped with the high-performance Apple silicon “H2 Chip,” similar to the AirPods Pro 2. This allows the in-ear headphones to feature Active Noise Cancellation, spatial audio, dynamic head tracking, “voice separation,” and Siri functionality that responds to nodding “yes” or shaking “no,” features previously only available on higher-end models.
Additionally, the stems are equipped with pressure sensors allowing for quick tactile control, and the design has been optimized based on numerous model data for better form.
The charging case maintains its maximum 30-hour battery life, while the terminal has changed from the traditional Lightning to USB-C. Additionally, it now supports wireless charging using Qi standards as well as chargers for the Apple Watch.
■ High-End AirPods MAX Now Has USB-C and New Colors
Next up is the high-end over-ear headphones, “AirPods MAX.” While the functionality remains unchanged from the model released in 2020, the terminal has been switched to USB-C, and five new colors have been introduced: Starlight, Orange, Purple, Blue, and Midnight. The price is set at 84,800 yen, also releasing on September 20.
■ AirPods Pro 2 Gets New Features Supporting Hearing Health
■ Hearing Assistance Feature for Hearing Tests and People with Hearing Loss, Available in Japan
Lastly, the new features for the AirPods Pro 2. Last year, the charging case switched to USB-C, and while there are no changes to the product itself this time, new features will be introduced via an update this fall.
This is part of Apple’s ongoing efforts regarding hearing health, aimed at preventing the effects on hearing caused by exposure to loud noise. In addition to passive noise reduction using ear tips, it combines with active noise cancellation to protect the ears even under noisy environments.
Furthermore, a scientifically proven hearing check feature will be implemented in combination with the iPhone/iPad. This will provide hearing tests and offer hearing assistance features for users with mild to moderate hearing loss. These two features are expected to be available in over 100 countries worldwide, including Japan.
