The Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s latest innovation in the field of augmented reality (AR), is already at the center of discussions shortly after its release – due to a discovered security vulnerability. Joseph Ravichandran, a graduate student at MIT, shared photos on Twitter showing how the AR glasses’ operating system reacts to a so-called kernel exploit. This exploit allows the device to be put into a special “perspective mode” and could open the door to jailbreaking and the introduction of malware.
The exploit causes the device to enter a state where it prompts the user to remove the headset and reboot. Ravichandran also demonstrated a custom-developed application called “Vision Pro Crasher” that can specifically crash the kernel. This discovery raises questions about the security and stability of the operating system.
