Apple watchOS 9 arrives September 12 (specs)

Ahead of the arrival of the new generation of Apple Watches (including the premium Apple Watch Ultra) later this month, existing smartwatch owners will be able to upgrade to watchOS 9. Apple says it will roll out the operating system on September 12, the same day it will arrive. iOS 16.

You’ll need an iPhone 8 or later or iPhone SE 2nd generation or later running iOS to install watchOS 9. Apple Watch Series 3 owners will lose the upgrade, which is compatible with Series 4 and later devices. Note that not all watchOS features will be available

There are noticeable upgrades to the fitness features, including heart rate zones for sleep and workouts, multi-sport workouts and a way to monitor your personal best performance. You’ll be able to track atrial fibrillation events and receive alerts when it’s time to take your medication. Other new features include a redesigned Siri, a revamped calendar app, quick action gestures and more watch screens.
