At the conference, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal brought examples of companies that the government was able to attract thanks to the many incentives it distributed in recent years in exchange for production on its soil: “Apple – another success story (of India). They are already around 5%-7% of production in India. If I don’t Wrong, they are targeting up to 25% of their production (in India). They have launched their latest models from India, which are made in India,” he said.

iPhone production in India began in 2017, when manufacturing contractor Wistron opened the first factory on the country’s soil to assemble Apple’s smartphones. After that, it was gradually joined by two of Apple’s production contractors – Pegatron, and the largest contractor, Foxconn. This year, for the first time, factories in India began producing the new iPhones – series 14 – a few weeks after the start of production in China, compared to half a year later in previous years.
