On August 2, the application period for the provision of the Social Residential Tariff (KOT) for electricity for the next twelve months began.
It is worth noting that the social residential tariff is lower by 4.5-7.5 cents per kilowatt-hour (depending on the category of the beneficiary) compared to the regular tariff of the respective provider. In other words, a significant discount is secured for those who are eligible.
When does the deadline for the social residential tariff expire?
The deadline for submitting applications ends one month after the tax declaration submission period, which means this year it will be on September 2.
Eligible recipients for the social residential tariff
A. There are two categories of beneficiaries:
a. KOT A’ includes those who meet the criteria for receiving the Social Solidarity Income.
b. KOT B’ includes those who meet the following criteria:
- They have total annual actual or deemed income, up to the limits of the table we publish.
For a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of sixty-seven percent (67%) or more, the income limits increase by 8,000 euros.
For a household that includes a person or persons who require mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is essential for their life, the income limits increase by 15,000 euros.
For each additional adult member, an amount of 4,500 euros is added, and for each additional minor member, an amount of 2,250 euros is added, up to a total limit of 31,500 euros regardless of the number of household members. This specific upper limit (31,500 €) increases by 8,000 euros for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of sixty-seven percent (67%) or more and by 15,000 euros for a household that includes a person or persons who require mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is essential for their life.

- The household members do not fall under the luxury tax provisions and do not declare living expenses for crew wages of recreational vessels, tuition fees at private schools, and for household helpers, car drivers, teachers, and other personnel.
B. The application for inclusion in KOT must be submitted each year in order to reassess the eligibility criteria. Applications are submitted electronically through HDIKA by the taxpayer of the household or their spouse, with the necessary prerequisite that the electricity supply is already in the name of the taxpayer or spouse. Each household receives the KOT only for the supply of the primary residence.
C. The KOT is applied to the total four-month consumption and up to the corresponding limits as provided for each category of beneficiary as follows:
- Single-member household 1400 kilowatt-hours
- Household with two adult members or single-parent family with one minor member 1600 kilowatt-hours
- Household with two adult members and one minor member or single-parent family with two minor members 1700 kilowatt-hours
- Household with three adult members or two adults and two minors or single-parent family with three minor members 1800 kilowatt-hours

- Household with four adult members or two adults and four minors or single-parent family with five minor members 2000 kilowatt-hours.
- For consumption less than 200 kWh per four months, the KOT discount is not applied.

For a household that includes a person or persons who require mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is essential for their life, the above consumption limits increase by 600 kWh.
For each additional adult member, an additional consumption of 200 kWh is added, and for each additional minor member, an additional consumption of 100 kWh is added, up to a total limit of 2,400 kWh irrespective of the number of household members. This specific upper limit (2,400 kWh) increases by 300 kWh for a household that includes a person or persons with a disability of 67% or more and by 600 kWh for a household that includes a person or persons who require mechanical support using medical devices, which is provided at home and is essential for their life.
