Do you need a visa for a holiday in Egypt? As said, it is indeed necessary. It does not matter whether you come by plane or, for example, by cruise ship. Even if you were to make the entire trip with your own transport, you must have a visa.
Each person needs their own visa, including children. Are you only transferring to another plane in Egypt? Then you do not need a visa as a Dutch citizen. You just can’t leave the airport.
How long can you stay in Egypt?
With a visa you can stay in Egypt for a maximum of 30 days. However, that does not mean that the visa is only valid for 30 days. That depends on the type of visa you are applying for. There is a distinction between a single entry and a multiple entry.
A single-entry is intended for a one-time visit to the country and remains valid for 90 days. The multi-entry remains valid for 180 days, so you can enter Egypt several times during that period. How often is not important, but you may never stay in the country for longer than 30 consecutive days.

What do I do if I want or need to stay longer in Egypt?
Of course you may have to be in the country longer. There could be several reasons for this. Maybe you want to spend more time with family, just to name a few. Do you always have to leave the country after 3 months?
That could be an option in itself, but it is more convenient to apply for a paper visa at the embassy of Egypt. This could also be done at the airport itself in Egypt, but that will work a lot less well. There is a good chance that you will have to wait for hours.
Are there any requirements to get a visa?
Yes, there are a number of things you should take into account if you want to apply for a visa for Egypt.
For example, you must be in possession of a passport, which is still valid for at least six months when you arrive. You must also be able to indicate at least 1 overnight stay when you apply for it.
If you arrive in Egypt, you must even have a travel schedule that includes an overview of your flights and accommodation.
If you are going to visit family or friends, you will have to be able to show a letter stating who you are and who you are going to (with address details). This is what they call an invitation letter.

Exception to applying for a visa for Egypt
If you stay in a resort in South Sinai and you want to visit Egypt for less than 15 days, you do not need to apply for a visa.
People from countries such as the European Union travel without a visa to Sharm-el-Sheikh, Taba, Dahab or Nuweiba. The only caveat here is that if you do this, you are also not allowed to travel in South Sinai to places other than those mentioned above and you cannot stay longer than 15 days.
