Seeman Questions Appointment of Non-Tamils to Top Government Positions in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: The appointment of non-Tamils to all the highest positions of authority in the Tamil Nadu government has raised concerns and questions about the ‘Dravidian model’, according to Naam Tamilar Party chief coordinator Seeman.

The recent appointment of Shivdas Meena as the new Chief Secretary, Shankar Jiwal as DGP Law and Order, and Shakeel Akhtar as Chief Information Commissioner has sparked demands for Tamils to be given these prominent roles. Seeman expressed his concerns in a statement where he questioned the need to appoint non-Tamils to these important positions and whether it was a deliberate exclusion of Tamils.

Seeman highlighted that while it is common practice to appoint individuals from outside Tamil Nadu for positions like the Governor and Chief Justice, the state government should prioritize appointing qualified Tamils to positions within its jurisdiction, specifically in administration, police, and the information commission. He emphasized that while qualifications and experience are important criteria, the appointment of non-Tamils to all these key posts raises significant doubts.

He further questioned the motives behind the Chief Minister’s decision, especially considering the hardships faced by the government and people of Tamil Nadu under the Governor from Bihar. Seeman asked whether this decision was made by the DMK government or if it was influenced by the recommendations of the BJP government at the national level.

Seeman also highlighted the presence of talented and honest Tamils currently working in relevant roles and questioned why they were ignored. In his statement, he urged the DMK government to provide a proper explanation and revisit their decision in order to appoint qualified Tamils to these top positions.

Furthermore, Seeman warned that overlooking the unique geographical, political, and socio-psychological challenges of Tamil Nadu and the rights issues faced by Tamils with neighboring states could lead to severe consequences. He called for a conscious approach to finding concrete solutions by individuals who understand Tamil culture and history.

In conclusion, Seeman urged the Tamil Nadu government to reconsider their decision and prioritize the appointment of qualified Tamils to the most important high posts in the state.

With the appointment of non-Tamils to these key positions, the issue of representation and the preservation of Tamil identity in the Tamil Nadu government continues to be a topic of debate.
