Appointment Controversy Continues; Priya Varghese has lowest research score than other candidates

Thiruvananthapuram | New information is out in the move to appoint Priya Varghese as an associate professor in Kannur University. Documents have now come out that suspect that Priya Varghese came first in the appointment rank list through a misguided move. Priya Varghese is the wife of Chief Minister’s Private Secretary KK Ragesh.

Priya Varghese has the lowest research score among the candidates. However, it is clear from the record that Priya got the first rank because of the high marks she got in the interview. Priya’s research score is 156. The research score of Joseph Skaria who got the second rank is 651. The RTI document also states that Priya’s 8 years of teaching experience including two years as director of students were considered.

The move to appoint Priya Varghese, an assistant professor at Thrissur Kerala Varma College, as an associate professor in Kannur had started a big controversy. Due to the controversy, the rank list was postponed without appointment. But the university syndicate meeting held last month approved the list in which Priya Varghese was ranked first. It was alleged that Dr Gopinath Ravindran was reappointed as VC in Kannur University as a reward for giving first rank to Priya Varghese. He is on deputation as assistant director at Priya Bhasha Institute since August 7 last year. The deputation period has now been extended by one more year.
