Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has appointed two independent directors to the vacant posts of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the main capital market of the country. The appointees are AF Neseruddin, Senior Partner, Chartered Accountants, Hada Vasi Chodhuri & Company, and Syeda Zakerin Bakht Nasir, Chief Consultant and CEO, ZN Consultants.

This decision was announced in the 921st commission meeting under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsud on Wednesday (September 18).

This information was informed through a press release signed by BSEC Director and Spokesperson Farhana Farooqui.

It is mentioned in the notice, by the decision of the 918th (Emergency) Commission meeting held on September 1, 2024, seven independent directors were appointed to the board of directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC according to Section 24 of the Exchanges Demutualization Act, 2013 and other related laws. Two independent directors of DSE who were appointed later expressed their inability to take over. AF Nesaruddin, FCA, FCS, Senior Partner, Hada Vasi Chodhuri & Company, Chartered Accountant and Syeda Zakerin Bakht Nasir, Chief Consultant & CEO, ZN Consultant as Independent Directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange Plc. appointed.

It should be noted that KAM Majedur Rahman, chairman of Maldives Islami Bank, who was appointed as an independent director of DSE due to controversy, and Research Director of Center on Integrated Development for Asia and Pacific (SIRDAP) Dr. Md. Helal Uddin has stepped down from the post of Independent Director of DSE.
