Draft ‘Export Policy 2024-27’ has been approved with special facilities for women exporters, special focus on export of electronic devices and special care for export of medicines, medical equipment and handicrafts.
The approval was given in the Cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s office on Monday (July 1). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
After the meeting in the afternoon press briefing at the Secretariat Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain said, there was a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce. The export policy is changed every three years. There were some minor observations this year. They are approved.
He said, in this year’s policy, policy instructions have been given to give special facilities to women exporters. Special attention has been asked in the case of export of electronic devices. Besides, instructions have been given to ensure that exports of medicines, medical equipment and handicrafts get special treatment.
The cabinet secretary said that the export policy has also included instructions for exporting software. The Prime Minister asked to give importance not only to the export of software, but also to the export of electronic devices. He also gave directions for the export of vegetables and fruits.
Md. Mahbub Hossain said, last year we had a target of 80 billion dollar export income. The target for this year is yet to be determined.
