The High National Elections Commission issued Resolution No. (109) of 2024 approving the preliminary list of candidates for municipal council elections (first group 2024).

The Commission explained, “The lists include those whose candidacy applications were accepted, and those who were excluded due to the lack of some candidacy conditions in their applications.”

Registration of candidates for the municipal council elections (first group) closed on September 14, after an extension of two days. Elections will be held in 60 municipalities during the first phase, to select seven municipal council members in municipalities with a population of 25,000 people or less. In municipalities with a population between 25 thousand and 75 thousand people, the number of members of their municipal council will be nine members, and municipalities with a population of more than 75 thousand people will have 11 members in the municipal council.

The statement added: “The responses of these parties resulted in the exclusion of (72) nomination applications against which Commission Council Resolution No. (108) of 2024 was issued, and the acceptance of (2,317) nomination applications in accordance with Resolution No. (109) of 2024, as reported by the Public Prosecution’s data.
