The head of the Iraqi Border Ports Authority, Omar Adnan Al-Waili, announced on Wednesday that his country has approved a transit project between Iraq and Iran. Al-Waili made this statement during a press conference held in Iran, emphasizing the significant economic impact this project will have on both nations. He also stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries to prevent drug and weapons smuggling, and to ensure the security of their shared border crossings.
A security delegation representing the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, led by its security advisor Saad Maan, arrived in Iran alongside Al-Waili. The delegation held a meeting with several Iranian security leaders, including the Undersecretary of the Iranian Ministry of Interior, “Miri Ahmad.” The focus of the meeting was to discuss preparations for the upcoming Arbaeen pilgrimage and to finalize plans for future cooperation between the two countries.
The two delegations also addressed broader issues of mutual concern, such as combating organized crime and drug smuggling, and strengthening security cooperation to promote stability and deter criminal activities.
The Iranian Minister of Interior, Ahmad Vahidi, welcomed the Iraqi delegation and emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue and collaboration between the two countries to enhance security stability.
