The first Haitian archbishop, he was appointed on August 20, 1966 after long discussions between the Holy See and the Haitian government. He received episcopal ordination on October 28, 1966. He retired in 2008.

François Wolf Ligondé, born January 17, 1928 in Les Cayes, died April 8, 2013 at the age of 85. He is a Haitian Catholic bishop, archbishop of Port-au-Prince (Haiti) from 1966 to March 2008.

He was ordained a priest on July 11, 1954.

On August 20, 1966, Pope Paul VI named him archbishop of Port-au-Prince. He remained there for more than forty years, only retiring on March 1, 2008 at the age of 80.

He is the maternal uncle of Michèle Bennett, the ex-wife of the former dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier.
