De-dramatize AI and give a glimpse of a resolutely positive future. The global innovation fair VivaTech will focus for four days (from June 14 to 17) on what innovations can bring us, rather than on the anxiety-provoking side of “Tech”. Supported by 2,400 start-ups and dozens of large groups, this 2023 edition will have generative artificial intelligence as its central theme.

These content-creating algorithms have recently come out of laboratories and are materialized for the general public by ChatGPT. The resulting discoveries are as fascinating as they are tense about the role of computers in our lives. Pedagogy is needed to reassure. “We are going to re-enchant artificial intelligence and restore serenity while discussing regulation with experts”, foresees François Bitouzet, the general manager of this event organized by Publicis Groupe and the Les Echos-Le Parisien group.

Miroki, the French robot that works in hospitals

It remains to convince a minority of reluctant to the changes brought by these technologies. The organizers put forward a survey (Opinion survey conducted mid-April by Harris Interactive Toluna with 3,129 Europeans) which indicates that “66% of Europeans consider that AI will not have a negative impact on society”.

Who better to dissect its positive potential than Yann Le Cun, director of research at Meta and world pioneer of AI or Bob Metcalfe, the inventor of Ethernet, the fundamental technology of the Internet. The curious will also be able to see and touch the impressive Miroki robot from the French start-up Enchanted Tools. His face, worthy of a manga character, and his function, working in hospitals or with children, could reconcile skeptics about the interest of intelligent machines. Others will be able to engage in conversation with a Van Gogh brought back to life by a talkative AI.

Potential against the effects of global warming

Another main theme addressed by the show, Climate Tech will focus on inventions that tackle head-on the problems of climate change in all its forms. A 400 m2 “Impact Miles” space will highlight new projects. Visitors will be able to drink water extracted from ambient humidity using technology from start-up Agua de Sol.

They will also be able to discover the Ryp Lab sticker, which naturally extends the shelf life of fruits and vegetables… by two weeks. Or get a closer look at floating wind turbines from the Norwegians of World Wide Wind. A new cast of prestigious speakers was unveiled such as Hans Vestberg, the boss of Verizon, the American telecoms giant, Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oréal or Cyril Chiche, the co-founder of Lydia.

Located at the exit of these conferences, the Mobility Park will exhibit futuristic vehicles such as the supersonic hydrogen plane Destinus, which has already exceeded the speed of Mach 1, or the prototype heavy electric delivery drone Apeleon. The more adventurous will make a detour to the nearby nautical base on the island of Monsieur, in Sèvres (Hauts-de-Seine), to test the Manta 5, an electric-assisted water bike that rides on water. thanks to its hydrofoil technology. Without forgetting the very first public presentation of the Z-Air, the flying transport machine designed by Frank Zapata.

A rare technology fair open to all, VivaTech will invite the general public on Saturday to rub shoulders with professional e-sports players or bet on races in autonomous mini-cars. With the objective of exceeding the 91,000 visitors won over last year.
