Arab foreign ministers will meet with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Amman on Saturday to call for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, according to a post on social media by Jordan’s Foreign Ministry. The ministers will discuss the current situation in Gaza and emphasize the need for urgent humanitarian aid to be delivered to the region.

The meeting aims to address the dangerous deterioration of the situation in Gaza, which poses a threat to the security of the entire region. The Arab foreign ministers will affirm their position of advocating for an immediate ceasefire and the swift delivery of humanitarian aid.

Prior to the joint meeting, Blinken held a separate meeting with Jordan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, in Amman. This meeting laid the groundwork for the discussions that will take place during the summit.

The participating countries include Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Qatar. Additionally, the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization will be present. The aim of the meeting is to find ways to bring an end to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

In addition to the Gaza situation, Blinken also met with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to discuss tensions between Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Lebanese paramilitary group, and Israel on the Israeli-Lebanese border. The meeting was meant to address the weeks-long tensions and seek potential solutions to de-escalate the situation.

The meeting between Arab foreign ministers and Blinken highlights the international community’s concern for the situation in Gaza and the urgent need for a ceasefire. As the ministers gather in Amman, they hope to find a way to restore peace and stability to the region and deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
