Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Ambassador Richard Norland, US envoy to Libya.
Zaki stated, “The conversation with the American official addressed developments in Libya and consultations on ways to resolve the current crisis.”
Zaki explained, “There was an exchange of views regarding the situation prevailing in Libya in general, where the Assistant Secretary-General reviewed the position of the Arab League and its constants, foremost of which is the importance of preserving the unity of the state and the integrity of its territories and emphasizing the Libyans’ ownership of the political process.”
The ambassador presented Smart“A comprehensive explanation of the efforts and contacts of the Arab League with the parties in recent months, as part of its mission to bring the two parties closer together, with the aim of unifying the institutions by implementing the will of the Libyans through the ballot box.”
The Assistant Secretary-General stressed that “the Arab League is always ready to accompany the Libyans towards finding appropriate solutions for them.”
For his part, the US envoy presented “a review of the efforts he is making to try to find a way out of the critical situation in Libya.”
The US envoy stressed his “keenness to consult and coordinate with the Arab League, and to listen to the League’s assessment regarding efforts to bring the viewpoints of the active parties there closer together.”
