Arab Parliamentary Union condemns EP resolution on Morocco

Beirut – The Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) expressed its condemnation and rejection of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on Morocco, which “defies the ideals of diplomatic relations and parliamentary customs between states, which must be based on the principles of dialogue, understanding, common interests and mutual respect.”

In a statement, the Union stressed that this type of resolutions, made of unfounded assertions and accusations, are likely to exacerbate tension and undermine the foundations of partnerships and strategic agreements between Arab states and European Union countries.

The UPA calls on the European Parliament to take into account the tangible and sustained efforts that Morocco has made in the fight against terrorism, illegal immigration and human trafficking.

The tendency to ignore these efforts “will have a counterproductive effect that will harm relations between Morocco and the countries of the European Union, encourage unjustified interference in the affairs of sovereign states and promote enmity towards Arab states, rather than helping to resolve bilateral crises through political and diplomatic channels.”

The Arab Parliamentary Union expresses its full support for Morocco and its backing for all measures that the Kingdom takes to confront this unjustified resolution and the unfounded accusations it contains.

The UPA also supports “the actions that Morocco undertakes to establish the foundations of peace, stability and prosperity, as well as for the good of its people and the preservation of its sovereignty and its role on the Arab and regional chessboards.”
