If the professionals of archeology are numerous to savor, with a more or less guilty pleasure, the films of the saga, several scenes also give them some cold sweats. An ambivalence still relevant with The Dial of Destiny.

During a stormy night on the high seas, Indiana Jones is arrested in possession of the Cross of Coronado, a conquistador’s treasure that he had already coveted in his youth. “His place is in a museumthrows the adventurer in the face of a very wealthy collector who immediately answers “yours also!». A fight ensues under a downpour for the possession of the gleaming object. Thus ended the prologue of The Last Crusade, the third film of the saga Indiana Jonesreleased in 1989. Thirty years later, The Dial of Destiny, the fifth installment of the adventures of the impetuous archaeologist is released in theaters. But 2023 is a different era. On the other side of the Atlantic, the Hollywood Reporter questions the relevance of continuing a dated saga “of a simpler time, and less sensitive to the culture of others”. And if, in the end, the collector of The Last Crusade was right ? And if it was time to store Indiana Jones in the closet?
