“We were shocked,” she says when remembering the day she discovered the space. She reported to the Metrópoles news portal that the house was the smallest brick house she had ever seen so far.

Transformation of Tiquinho’s house

Ester, who is the project architect Farmingwho carries out housing efforts on the outskirts of São Paulo, met Tiquinho and volunteered to build the property of one of his neighbors.

Without access to water, without a bathroom and without a refrigerator, Tiquinho’s residence became one of the project’s priorities.

What is considered by many to be a small room is Tiquinho’s entire house. In the house, there is a sofa, a toilet, some shelves and a suspended bed close to the ceiling.

But, in just seven months, Tiquinho’s residence was completely transformed. Ester created an architectural project and involved the community, attracting donations and changing the housing.

O immobile it grew by 1 m² and gained a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet, thanks to the generosity of a neighbor, who provided a vacant space under her stairs to create a room.

The area that previously housed a small sofa and shelves received a cabinet that also functions as a staircase. The piece of furniture gives access to Tiquinho’s bed, installed high up, like a bunk bed.

Walls and ceiling were plastered and painted white and the space received flooring and coverings. The exposed wiring in the home was also corrected.

“It was a very high risk of fire,” says Ester.

Architect gets help from other people

After seeing the house at the beginning of the year, Ester sought help to carry out the renovation.

“In February, we started a (donation) campaign,” she says.

A kitty The initial goal was not reached, but donations helped create the bathroom. In the following months, other parts of the house were renovated until the final version was reached last Monday the 11th.

The architect estimates that the work cost around R$10,000, half of which was paid for by donations received in the campaign. “This even raised my self-esteem,” says Tiquinho. He said he was depressed before the renovation. However, now, he already has plans for the house, such as installing the old TV in front of the bed and putting LED lights in the kitchen.
