Russia has been carrying out a deadly offensive for the eighth day in protest of Ukraine joining NATO forces. Despite the strong international opposition to the war and the imposition of sanctions, Russia continues to carry out its offensive without fear. Russia, which has seized key cities since yesterday, has been carrying out heavy attacks, including missile strikes on cities including Kharkiv and Kiev.
Meanwhile, Russia is aggressively attacking the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The Indian embassy in Ukraine immediately advised the Indians not to leave the bus or train facility as Indian students were killed in the ongoing attack there. In this context, it was alleged that the Ukrainian police and military were blocking Indian students from using trains to travel to border cities. Following the Indian embassy’s concern over the issue, the Ukrainian government explained that there was no racial or ethnic discrimination in Ukraine.
In this case, just minutes after the release of this explanation, a video was released refusing to allow Indian students to board the train. In the video, Indian students on their way to the train stations to exit Kharkiv can be seen being evacuated by the police without boarding the trains. Similarly, Indian students were seen urging Ukrainian authorities to put themselves on the train.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Indian students are being held hostage by Ukrainian security forces. With the Russian president promising not to do anything to Indians, the question arises as to whether the Ukrainian government is using Indian students as human shields.
