New Delhi: Twenty-two rooms have been locked in the Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Are there idols of Hindu gods in them? The BJP has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court seeking an order directing ASI officials to look into the matter and submit a report.

The Taj Mahal was built by King Shah Jahan during the Mughal rule of India. He built it in 1653 in Agra in memory of his wife Mumtaz. Currently, the Taj Mahal, located in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World. Tourists from all over the world, including India, visit the Taj Mahal every day. To the right of the Taj Mahal is the Shai Mosque. In it, Agra Muslims are allowed to hold special Friday prayers on the weekend of the Taj Mahal.

Historical monuments including the Taj Mahal in Agra are maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of the Central Government. Responsibility for its security has been handed over to the National Guard. It is said that King Shah Jahan built this Taj Mahal after demolishing the ancient Shiva temple here. Hindutva groups have been raising complaints about the Taj Mahal for years.

In this case, about 22 rooms inside the Taj Mahal appear to be permanently locked. Are there any statues and inscriptions of Hindu deities in it? There is a demand to see. Ayodhya spokesperson Dr. Rajneesh Singh has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh. In his petition, BJP leader Rajneesh demanded that the ASI officials be ordered to open the rooms and submit a report.

References to some historians are also included in the petition. In it, it is mentioned that there was a Shiva temple on the site of the Taj Mahal before that.

Rajneesh Singh, a senior leader of the Ayodhya BJP, said, “I have been trying to find out what is in the closed rooms in the Taj Mahal since 2020. I also asked the Federal Department of Tourism and Culture about this under the Right to Information Act. In it, they deal with the claim of being locked up for security reasons. I have filed this case to bring out the truth in no other way, ”he said.

For many years, Hindutva organizations referred to the Taj Mahal as ‘Tejomagal’. Many attempts were made to worship the idol of Lord Shiva on its premises. Even on the 27th of last month, the monk Paramahansa Das, the head of a monastery in Ayodhya, came to the Taj Mahal. He also said that he wanted to visit the Shiva temple inside.

However, the monk did not get permission as he had an iron cane in his hand. He was later arrested by Agra police and detained at the Government Guest House until his return on May 4. The monk Paramahansa, who was on a fast against this, returned to Ayodhya saying that he would file a case in the Supreme Court.

The petition is currently being filed by the Ayodhya BJP in the Allahabad High Court.
