In Fernando Gago’s first game as a local coach at La Bombonera, Boca Juniors won 1-1 against Deportivo Riestra on Sunday for the nineteenth round of the Argentine soccer league.
Brian Sánchez was the author of Riestra’s goal in the 14th minute. Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani tied in the 77th.
The game started in a good way for the visitors. Brian Sánchez controlled with his chest and volleyed over the goalkeeper Leandro Brey in a great goal for the black team (this time in white).
The Boquenses were in control in the first half and had their clearest chances in the last minutes of this half. Tomás Belmonte shot from outside to clear goalkeeper Ignacio Arce at 42. Agustín Martegani also claimed Arce at 45+5.
Gago’s team kept possession and harassed Riestra throughout the build-up. That amount increased more significantly with the decline of the visit. Boca managed to break the wall of Cristian Fabbiani’s team when the Uruguayan goalkeeper Marcelo Saracchi, coming from the bench, managed to make a low contact with Cavani and the goal connected.
Pol Fernández, who entered, was dismissed at the age of 95 due to a violent breach.
“It’s always difficult against an organized team. That is logical. We were completely better,” Xeneize Cavani said after the match. “We create chances. At least we were able to tie it.”
In their stadium, Platense beat Argentinos Juniors 2-1 in a classic Buenos Aires soccer match. The little red bugs started better scoring at 7 through Nicolás Oroz. The squid team reversed the result with goals from Mateo Pellegrino and Guido Mainero, at 26 from a penalty and at 45 + 1 respectively.
Banfield Racing won with substitutes 2-1 at the Florencio Sola stadium. Santiago Quirós scored the goal for La Academia at 48. Bruno Sepúlveda equalized for the Verdiblancos at 52. Ignacio Rodríguez scored the local winning goal at 69.
