Argentina: unite the struggles to face the adjustment of the IMF, the Government and the employers

The currency run resulted in a new inflationary jump. Salaries and pensions continue to lose.

The economy is stagnant, and possibly headed for a recession

Sergio Massa runs to the IMF to ask for more money, increasingly compromising our sovereignty and our resources, for many years.

Cristina Fernández, in her speech, criticized the agreement with the International Monetary Fund, but proposes to pay for it and supports Massa, while protecting capitalism as an untouchable “mode of production”. That is to say, she does electoral theater, but she does not want to change anything.

Javier Milei defends the dollarization of the economy, a mechanism that would mean not only a brutal devaluation, but a new heavy chain tying our sovereignty. The one who talks about “freedom”, he proposes to enslave us to the United States.

Together for Change (JxC), who saw his electoral triumph as easy, is worried now, while preparing his arsenal of measures against the working class and the people, if he has to govern.

The CGT, close to the Government, instead of supporting the workers’ and popular struggles, receives the envoys of the US State Department, and offers itself to Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (from JxC) to pass the anti-worker Labor Reform that is being prepared for after the elections, in exchange for being part of the business and receiving his cut.

All the bosses’ parties endorse Massa’s brutal adjustment, and are preparing a worse one for 2024.

They defend the enormous business profits of multinationals and national bosses. Like Paolo Rocca, from Techint, who was benefited by the Government to produce the pipes for the Néstor Kirchner Gas Pipeline, hiring precarious workers and whom he will fire when the work is finished.

Millions of workers, both precarious and under collective bargaining agreements, are in poverty. And those responsible are in sight.

We can’t wait for the elections

Tire, nurses, teachers from different provinces, subway workers and from different factories such as Bedtime and Felfort, for example, are fighting. In a dispersed way, because the leaders are tied to the Government and isolate the conflicts.

Some leaders and Kirchnerism demand a fixed sum, as if they were not part of the Government. And they do nothing to rip it off.

We can not wait. It is necessary to prepare from below, even if it costs, a unified fight for wages, against layoffs and against any attempt at Labor Reform.

We have to face the adjustment, the surrender and the misery of the plans of the IMF and the bosses, applied by the Government and the opposition, with the complicity of the CGT, the CTA and the majority of the unions.

It is a fundamental task to support and unite all the struggles of the workers, with the popular struggles against crime and insecurity, against tariffs, and in defense of the environment in the provinces. Coordinate them by area, by union, going over the leaders and the “organic bodies” and “statutes”, which they use only to divide us.

It is necessary to bring together the activists and fighters, claim the delegates, and build from below the list of demands and the necessary fight plan.

We must prepare a forceful fight, as the French working class is carrying out, until defeating the adjustment and surrender.

It will not be easy. It will cost us reprisals. But we cannot continue in this situation of permanent deterioration and employer abuses. We cannot allow them to continue playing with our lives and those of our families.

For a background exit

But it is not enough to fight for salary and employment. It is not a matter of always defending ourselves, of running away from poverty.

We need a debate in the entire working class. No solution will come out of the elections. The day after, our problems will continue. But it is a good time to promote the debate for a different economic, worker and popular program.

Bills have been presented, such as those of the CGT, to reduce the weekly working day to 36 or 40 hours. But it would have to be without salary reduction, as well as a minimum salary equal to the family basket automatically adjusted according to inflation: it is a necessity (see page 6).

However, presenting these laws from those who are part of a government that forces us to make extras to reach the salary, is a mockery, it is an electoral play, they are kidding us. And furthermore, they tie the reduction to the increase in productivity.

We have to promote a comprehensive industrial development plan for the country, which puts all resources at the service of the population. That it starts from not paying the Debt, seizing food and products that increase without control, expropriating the large multinational and national companies, nationalizing energy, transportation and all the fundamental levers of the economy under the control of the workers and communities, controlling completely foreign trade so that there is cheap and quality food for all the inhabitants of Argentina. And nationalize the banks, also under the control of the workers, to fully centralize financial activity and prevent exchange speculation.

These, among other measures, will only be achieved with a deep struggle.

We are in the month that celebrates the May Revolution. We need, as in 1810, a new revolution that breaks our colonial chains, achieves a new Independence and begins the path to a new economic system, of the workers, a Socialist Argentina, without IMF or capitalists.
