Argentina is crazy. From the moment the final whistle sounded in Qatar, the Argentinians did not stop celebrating and today (Tuesday) after Leo Messi and his friends landed back in the country, the real celebrations officially began, and also ended a little earlier than expected in light of security difficulties for the continuation of the event.
The Argentine government announced a public holiday this morning. Thousands got up at 3:00 in the morning to pay their respects and welcome the team, which landed in Buenos Aires with the trophy and medals. The celebrations began in the afternoon and lasted several hours, but were stopped after the movement of the players’ bus was blocked by the crowd – and the players were evacuated from the scene by helicopters.
On the way from Qatar, the Albiceleste stopped in Rome to visit the Pope and from there continued to Argentina. The song Muchachos (of course) greeted the players who immediately got on the “Victory Bus” that made its way to the city center. After getting a good rest, the players celebrated in the streets of Buenos Aires on the bus with the trophy to the applause of four million citizens who came out to celebrate.
At one point the traffic of the Argentine bus was blocked by the crowds, so the players had to be evacuated from the area by helicopter and the parade stopped. The players themselves arrived at the association’s training complex in the country. One of the reasons why it was decided to stop the celebrations on the bus was that fans jumped into the Argentina bus from a bridge, with one successfully doing so and one landing on the bus and falling off it (apparently injured). Watch:
During the celebrations, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who teased Mbappe in the dressing room celebrations (“a moment of silence for Mbappe who died”), was recorded with a baby doll with Mbappe’s head, with Leo Messi right next to him. Watch:
