The Argentine government has organized a security operation to prevent more than 11,000 fired government employees from entering government buildings. This was reported by the Argentine newspaper Clarin, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to her, Argentine trade unions are planning to hold demonstrations, including in government buildings, in protest after the layoff of thousands of government employees in March this year. “[3 апреля] we must demonstrate that it is the government that acts outside the constitution and the law. If there is violence and repression, the only one responsible for this will be the current government,” the newspaper quoted Rodolfo Aguiar, secretary general of the Association of Civil Servants (ATE), as saying.

At the same time, the Argentine Ministry of Security warned that the entry of protesters into department buildings would be considered an “attempt to seize.”

On March 27, Argentine President Javier Miley announced that the government intends to fire about 70 thousand civil servants by the end of the month. According to Miley, the government has terminated about 50 thousand contracts with civil servants, noting that the number of contracts is decreasing, and 70 thousand contracts will be canceled. According to the portal La Politica Online, tens of thousands of “unnecessary” contracts, which expired on March 31, were cut.

Miley took office as President of Argentina on December 10, 2023. In his first speech as head of state, he described the situation in the country as critical and stated the need for shock therapy in the economy. The libertarian politician advocates minimal government intervention in the economy, the abolition of the Central Bank of Argentina to curb inflation and the privatization of state-owned companies. As one of the first measures, Miley’s government reduced the number of ministries from 18 to 9.
