Armand Duplantis Breaks Pole Vault World Record with 6.26m Jump in Chorzow

by time news

Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis improved his world record in pole vault by clearing a height of 6.26 meters on his second attempt at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow, Poland, on Sunday.

Having held the world record in his discipline since February 2020 with a jump of 6.17m in Torun, Poland, “Mondo” Duplantis has now broken the best mark in history for the tenth time, just twenty days after his previous record of 6.25m set at the Paris Olympic Games.

Freshly crowned in Paris, the Swede had cleared 6.15m on Wednesday at the Lausanne meeting, having not “trained much” since the end of the Olympics.

Before the eyes of Lavillenie

In Silesia on Sunday, Armand Duplantis cleared 5.62m on his first attempt, followed by 5.92m and 6.00m to take the lead in the competition ahead of American Sam Kendricks and Greek Emmanouil Karalis, before tackling his world record.

On his first attempt at 6.26m, Duplantis missed his jump, passing under the bar before correcting his aim on his second attempt, where he touched the bar but kept it from falling, all under the watchful eyes of former world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, who was also competing in Chorzow.
