Armand Duplantis Defends Gold and Improves World Record in Pole Vault
Armand Duplantis secured his second consecutive gold medal in the pole vault final at the Paris Olympics on Monday, while also etching his name deeper into history with a world record-breaking performance.
The Swedish star dominated the competition, effortlessly clearing 6.00 meters on his first attempt to claim first place. He then proceeded to clear 6.10 and 6.25 meters, the latter surpassing his previous world record by one centimeter.
Despite his dominance, Duplantis needed three attempts to clear 6.25 meters, showcasing the immense pressure he faced in attempting to break his own record.
While Guttormsen finished in eighth place, his fellow countryman Sam Kendricks secured silver with a jump of 5.95 meters. Emmanouil Karalis claimed bronze with 5.90 meters.
Guttormsen, who had qualified for the final by clearing 5.75 meters, struggled with injuries throughout the competition. He failed to clear 5.70 meters on his first two attempts, ultimately settling for eighth place.
